RE: RAT ANTI-NATO-ART
John-
Beautifully Put. Those were my thoughts exactly when I rode by a group
of protesters urging 'no more bombs-more diplomacy'. really- I wept.
I also wept when I read my brother's (Brad) post. I know he means
this, and is in complete earnest and his motivations come from a
sincere desire and love for peace and many other beautiful things.
I wept at the Irony of Lee's comments, and Werner's response. Clearly,
they were meant as comic relief. clever yes, unfortunatly not quite on
the mark.
Bombs will not end this. Nor will letters or pleas from any group,
most especially Peace-loving people.
I happened to see an interview of Yugoslavia's foreign minister on TV
late last night (something or other Javanovich) where he bald-faced
accused the US of causing the death and destruction which has been
documented as having been perpetrated by Milosovitch and his minions
of death. This is not an administration that will respond to
diplomacy.
Myself I see nothing wrong with going to war to protect lives. but
that's not what Clinton's prepared to do. What about Sudan? What about
Tibet ? I once saw an adaptation of Edna Millay's poem about a town
that was destroyed...part of the script was a reading of all the
similar events throughout history (slaughters of innocent victims,
ethnic cleansing, pogroms, etc etc...). This was one of the most
moving things I have ever seen.
Now...if we could just find artists who were willing to take the
struggle to the leaders, and to the people, and be committed and
aggressive about speaking out (As Brad is) then we might accomplish
something.
Keep fighting the good fight, Brad. I wish I had your passion.
