Re: RAT Hello Seattle, i must be going...
nobody here is "innocent"... promoters, punks, wto participants. the point
being made here is that the garden-variety-punks are reacting on an
instinctual level -- whether they're social revolutionaries or petty
oppertunists. the point being that they both (and the other factions
included) take out their agressions against the same symbols: people in
seats of power, cops, corporate stores/symbols...
the piont being that, for some reason, seattle has brought together members
of the left (and some on the right), as well as those who have no political
consciousness or agendas. they do not express themsleves in ways we consider
"outlets" for expression... there is no redirection of thier anger: its all
being taken out directly.
the communards of paris 1793 (as well as thier "children" in paris 1968)
were not all whatever history thinks they were ("socialists", situationists,
maoists, etc.) what they had in common though, and what they share with the
general "message" from seattle (which has historically been the home of a
large conscious anarchist population
which includes the wobblies) is that they are opposed to the system of
sameness and separation that the wto represents in its highest form.
call it class war, call it an instinctual rejection of oppressive social and
mental institutions, hell, you can even call it petty vandalism and mindless
destruction, but the conditions of this outburst is the same as the
conditions of other outbursts. the wto (and the intellectual foundations
behind it) helps to create and perpetuate the myths of scaricty, progress,
and equal oppertunity, while the corporate sector of society reaps the
benefits of exploition, discliplined consumer markets, and manufactured
political consciousness.
the robotic voice cired: "concerned (but powerless)/an empowered and
informed member of society" -- radiohead. ok computer.
these sentiments are unspoken. just becuase somebody is loafer, a dirty
punk, or a stupid kid doesn't mean they have no perception of the world
around them.
and it also doesn't mean that cops aren't terriorists who dress for success
just because you don't see it that way.
under the sidewalk, the beach!
