RAT PA: venues
To all RATS and BCTers -
I may have the opportunity to be involved in the development of a couple of
theatrical spaces here in L.A., and I am interested in knowing what sort of
things (ie. flexible seating arrangements, 20 foot ceiling heights, 24-hour
access, etc.) you think are most valuable in a venue. Please identify whether
you would be looking to use the venue as a home or as a one-time location.
Similarly, what if any, production assistance would be useful to you -
marketing support, publicity services, etc.
I know that most of us wish we could find a rehearsal/performance space for
free, but on the off-chance that this wish remains unfulfilled, what would
you be willing to offer to help supplement your rental costs (ie. theatre
upkeep, participation in or development of outreach programs, etc.)
What have you found to be the best and most mutually satisfying agreements
for yourself and the person renting out the venue?
I'd like to use this information to see if I can help to create a venue (or
two) that is actually accessible to and geared toward promoting big cheap
theatre (in at least some of the myriad ways that we define this term.)
I'd appreciate your input.
Sincerely,
Gleason Bauer
