Re: RAT We're looking for some expertise in how to start a new theater

Hi,

Catherine, Thanks for your feedback about "Defining A New
Arts Era." I'll try and locate a copy.

If Cat or anybody sent me a response to my note about starting a theater in
the last two days, I didn't receive it. Please resend your thoughts.

Some quick background about me: I've been an arts administrator at theaters
-- both new and established -- in New York, LA and San Francisco. I know I've
posed some very big questions, I'm hoping to generate a dialogue about
different approaches to beginning a theater.

I've been asked by some performers (I'm a performer too) to be a part of a
team that is taking tentative steps toward the creation of a theater.
Everyone in the group is a solo performers and they are seeking a place to
put on their shows. They haven't thought much beyond that and I know to
create something that's ongoing there needs to be some serious thought about
what it is we're about and what it is we want. From my experience in creating
organizations of any kind, the best people to speak to about the process of
starting a new organization in the most constructive manner are people with
strong backgrounds in group dynamics and organizational psychology. Though
the focus may be very different, the process of beginning a new group is much
the same no matter what kind of organization you wish to start. You folks
have a world of experience - I want your very biased opinions on what you did
in creating a theater that you would urge others to follow and what you did
that you would discourage others from doing.

Thanks,
Bruce Pachtman
