Re: RAT Non-profit or for-profit?

Besides the really good resource Catherine of PW has offered you, I'd
suggest taking a look at some legal / funding things:

-Check to see what theater funding is available in your area. Is
501(c)(3) status required to receive it? (Normally, yes.) - Is there some
umbrella arts organization (see previous post about this)

-- The form for filing for 501(c)(3)
http://ftp.fedworld.gov/pub/irs-pdf/k1023.pdf

- Check with some other local non-profit to see the pros and cons. Here's
a list of non-profits in North Carolina
http://www.ncnonprofits.com/show_eonc_n.asp?Code=A

- If you decide to go non-profit, or incorporate in any way in which the
Board of Directors is officially in control, make very, very sure that
you will be able to "control" the Board in some way. (I know a couple of
people who went after names/money for their Board and got thrown out of
their own organizations.)
