When we became nonprofit, I did the whole thing myself with the Nolo Press 
book.  DO NOT attempt to become nonprofit without this book!!  It tells you 
exactly what to do step by step.  It's WAY cheaper, easier, and friendlier 
than a lawyer.

You can't just rely on filing the IRS form for 501c3- you have to file a 
bunch of stuff with your state first.  It's oh-so-complicated.  Get the book 
and follow what it says and you'll be golden.
