Re: RAT less work / Mitch
Mitch, WIth all due respect, maybe it's because I don't always see the more
successful company driven shows you do; I see a great deal of smaller
productions in which they can't fill the seats. Even though these shows are
worthy, and well produced.
You mention only a few groups, and of these, one is an LA Times Critic's
Choices. And it's a tiny venue. Plus, the other shows aren't even running
now, according to Dec. 19 LA Times listings.
<< Circle X, Playwrights Arena, Cornerstone, The Actors Gang,Moving Arts, The
Evidence <<Room, The Burglers Of Hamm, ALL SOLD OUT SHOWS THIS MONTH
NOT SO. I had no trouble getting into some of these shows (in one case I made
reservations but blew it vis a vis the time).
If I contacted these theatres, would they tell me they always sell out? Not
in my experience.
Am I mad (a possibility) and a loon, or is audience a problem for many
productions? Wake up and smell the empty seats (metaphorically).
Yes, people see theatre -- friends of the company, relatives, other actors,
directors -- many of the same faces.
And btw, when I beg for less theatre, I mean BETTER theatre. Same with
films-- less and BETTER films. Please. I do not bow to the consensus, when
the consenus is from theatre managers with an obligation to keep all their
actors working.
