RAT Sun and Moon Press series

Rats,
If in the area, I invite you to an exciting installment in our Contemporary
Drama Reading series at The Ivy Substation. This series exists due to the Iowa
conference in 1994.
the reading is the play BE AGRESSIVE by Annie Weisman. The playwright is
fresh. Annie has been working for the Mark Taper Forum New Work festival and
as Robert Egan's right hand. Her voice (this is her 3rd play) is new and very
LA. "I smoke you know. I smoke and then I suck Altoids before you get home.
And I ash in the tiger orchids. That's why they've lost their spots. It's not
El Nino. It's me."
"Where do they have Hebrew school? "At Temple Del Sol. It's the new temporary
temple in the coastal civic center"
PHIL -"If we don't make a freeway through that pass then the whole of Poway
and the whole of San Marcos and half of Sierra del Campo are gonna start
driving through the town of Vista Del sol. You won't even be able to cross the
street from Katie's Danish to the 10th Street beach without taking your life
in your hands. And every inland family has a massive sports utility vehicle.
Not just a jeep but one of those ten cylinder jobs. Takes a fucking
brontosaurus worth of fossil fuel. Can hit a whole mormon family and not spill
a latte in the cup holder. Is that what you want for our town?
LISA: Katie's danish closed. Everybody just goes to the BREADS ETC. in the
mega-store mall.
PHIL: There's nothing we can do to stop the change. Change happens. I won't
stand on the corner of Caminito del Mango and wave a sign that says "CAUTION-
QUAINTNESS IN PERIL" and neither should anyone else. A little cement and paint
never hurt anybody."
next month the playwright will be in residence with the ASK theatre projects
spring retreat working on the play's development.
