RAT Re: obscurity
This is an interesting discussion, Karen, and I thank you for bringing it
up. It's led me to realize that when I was a literary manager, if I had met
a playwright or had correspondence with him or her outside the "will you
read my play?" vein, if I had a sense of the playwright as a person, I read
the play better. The humor got to me better, especially black comedy, which
can be hard to read silently on the page and "get it." Perhaps that is some
of what's meant by "connections."
