[Sylvain, John] Its funny how RAT infested I am. All I've ever
wanted to do, or ever done is black comedy and avante-gardish stuff. My
perspective is so warped that I think anything that has been done more than
three times is unproducible and if it doesn't make the audience laugh
anxiously or do something completely insane onstage that has never been, nor
should ever be attempted then there is no reason to do the play. The only
exception to that is a great new work by somebody who takes out the garbage
as Chris said earlier. The myth is that audiences won't come to that kind of
wild stuff. I've found that they flock to it if you don't fill it with
pompous self importance and focus on affecting them. Also if its black
comedy you gotta make 'em laugh. If it's not you gotta make 'em laugh
anyway. It also helps if you like what you're doing and you do it well. That
helps enourmously. Which is possible only if you're doing exactly what you
want to do. Which brings the whole thing round to the beginning.
Wow. My first big RAT post.
Wait, this is the RATList, everyone on this knows this already. Oh
well.
Excelsior!
