karen:

undermain in dallas does lots of far-out, avant-garde, blackly comedic
language plays. mac wellman and jeff jones are two of our favorites. and we
keep reading y york, trying to find the right match. we don't have a literary
manager or anyone to read unsolicited submissions. when we did, they were
overwhelmingly inappropriate for our theater. we get most of our scripts on
referral from our playwright pals. we found erik ehn and mac wellman through
jeff jones. we found suzan-lori parks and lenora champagne through erik. we
found quincy long, ruth margraff, and most others the same way. we trust their
taste and they know our work. talk to some of your playwright pals and ask
them to refer scripts of yours they like to theaters that might also like
them. each time you're produced and forge a relationship with a like-minded
theater, offer to do the same for them. it is partly about connections, but
that's not all bad. if you send me a copy of your script, i'll make sure we
add it to our next season selection reading series.
