RAT Moving Arts Playreading 6/5
On Tuesday June 5 at 8:00 pm Moving Arts will present a reading of BLUE
YONDER, a play by Kate Aspengren, directed by Nikki Hevesy.
A familiar adage states, "Men may work from sun to sun, but women's work is
never done." In BLUE YONDER, eleven women, including a professional
baseball player, a Woolworth's clerk, and a daredevil who plays with
dynamite, examine their life's work. Through separate monologues, each
woman explores the career that she has found--or that has found her. BLUE
YONDER received its world premiere at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival in
1998.
Kate Aspengren lives and works in Iowa City, Iowa. Her published plays
include DEAR MRS. MARTIN, MOTHER'S DAY, HOUSE OF WONDERS, and FLYER (all by
Samuel French). DEAR MRS. MARTIN has also been translated for European
production. Her work also appears in several collections of scenes and
monologues. Ms. Aspengren's work has been produced at Actors Theatre of
Louisville, The Loft Theater of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the
New American Comedy Festival, the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, and The
West End Theatre in New York. She teaches playwriting at The University of
Iowa. She also teaches in the Iowa Summer Writing Festival and holds an
annual playwriting residency at Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware.
The reading of BLUE YONDER will be held at Moving Arts' mainstage at the
Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 South Spring St. in downtown Los Angeles.
There is ample parking in the gated lot at 6th and Main, just behind the
theatre.
Admission is free. Reservations are not required. A discussion will
follow the reading.
