Friends-

	Re. Jeff Jones' dinner party.  The dinner party is becoming a
universal metaphor.  I just read a Wm. F. Buckley column using a dinner
party as illustration that protests against tax cuts for the wealthy  were
misguided.  That's one weird party.

	Dinner parties as metaphor for theatre, I'm not so sure.  Do you
only invite your friends to your shows?  Are they only in your home?

	Our own dinner parties are usually potlucks, which in a way is the
same as passing along the expense.  So maybe that *is* a transferable
metaphor, to some extent - does the introduction of one element, Money,
into the ceremony itself alter the occasion irremediably?  I think there a
bunch of things besides that.
