RAT Tomorrow night at Painted Bride for rats

Hi all,

The next meeting preparing for June's RAT Conference is being held at the
Painted Bride tomorrow night Tuesday, March 13 at 6pm. All theaters and
independent theater workers are invited. The Painted Bride Art Center is
located on the northern edge of Old City, Philadelphia, between 2nd and 3rd
Streets on Vine.

Please attend if you are interested in helping define the Philadelphia
theater community in its relationship to the national landscape. Agenda and
topics will be put forth and discussed including the following:

******** Anarchy and Grace - the Dramaturgy of Non-sense ********

Many small theaters operate without the structure that facilitates the
product that larger organizations are able to generate. Yet most times
the model of a loosely knit configuration of friends and business
associates can react with a spontaneity and decisiveness that would be
impossible in larger theaters. The dramaturgy that must present a
subscription series for each season will have a different attentiveness and
relationship to the zeitgeist than the dramaturgy that presents one project
at a time.

******** Who and Where is the Professional Actor? *********

Actors serious about their career often feel enormous pressure to relocate
to either to Los Angeles or New York. This anomaly alone of needing to
leave friends, family, and community in order to pursue one's art form
"professionally" separates actors from most other citizens.

On any given date approximately 87.5% of Equity actors are not employed.
This is extremely different from most other "professions."

How is stardom and fan-dom related/unrelated to the actor and the theater
audience?

**********************

Come and contribute to shaping the agenda. What are Philadelphia-specific
concerns? What would you like to see happen on a national level? What
workshops/roundtables would you like to attend/head? Whom would you like
to see invited to talk with us?

Best to all,
Nick Fracaro
