RAT re: knocking the Lion King

I'm not knocking the Lion King as much as I am knocking the production of 
the Lion King in Toronto that I saw, esp. in comparison to say The Green
Bird, or Juan Darien.

The Lion King is beautifully designed, and the actors are all strong and
excellent performers, and the dancers and singers are all really great too!
The story is mediocre, but what the hey.

I waited two years to see that show, and when I got there I was
disappointed.  The pace was glacial, I was bored and ahead of the story
theatrically.  (Of course I already knew the story, but they weren't telling
me the story, really.  They were just wearing gaudy costumes about the
story)

I work in the circus. If you are going to entertain me, entertain me at a
fast pace. They didn't.  If you are going to engage me in a piece of
artwork, engage me!  Don't pretend to by using  great set and costume design
and then singing songs I already know at a slower tempo than they should be
sung at!
