What was the purpose of your posting against him?... it certainly wasn't for
him.... the whole tone smacked of blacklisting... ergo the McCarthy
reference... you were also denigrating him for a personal moral choice...
much as was done to members of the communist party, alleged or otherwise...
hence the McCarthy reference... you are seeking to intimidate by publishing
in a pejorative manner the name of someone who doesn't act in a way you
approve of ... once again, nice job Senator McCarthy
...and just for the record, I support the strike but NOT the opinion that
every one should even if they must be intimidated to do so >>
To me, this smacks of Reagan-era labor policy, i.e., Sure you have the right
to organize a union though of course you can be fired if you try to do so;
Sure you can go on strike, though of course you can be fired and replaced if
you choose to do so; Sure you can have a picket line though of course it's an
act of moral courage for people to break the strike and cross it. I do think
it's been up for grabs in this country whether labor rights are anything but
a cosmetic pretense. There's no point to unionization and strike (and threat
of strike) and picket lines if there are no teeth. And yes, there is an
inherent (at least potential) conflict between individual rights and
collective rights on behalf of groups of individuals, but if that's the
philosophical issue, why not come out and say so?
