RAT Suzan-Lori Parks world premiere in Houston

Hey Rats,

Jason Nodler from Infernal Bridegroom Productions in Houston calling. I met
some of you at the LA conference.

IBP recently opened the world premiere of FUCKING A, written and directed by
Suzan-Lori Parks, with music and lyrics by same.

FUCKING A is a very loose riff on The Scarlet Letter (as was IN THE BLOOD,
Suzan-Lori's other recent premiere). It's epic in scope, recalling all that
is great about Greek tragedy, Shakespeare and Brecht/Weill, and it features
an invented language called TALK, which is used to discuss sex, reproduction
and certain aspects of the female anatomy.

One of my favorite things about FUCKING A (there are many) is that, while it
was written by one of our foremost avant-garde writers, it is truly a play.
Not only that, but it reminds that plays (in the grandest traditional sense)
really aren't written anymore. FUCKING A is big, raunchy, pop and colorful.
It also features a complex plot and not one but several old-style stories.
Best of old, best of new. I think it's one of her most remarkable
accomplishments, which is saying a lot.

If any of you can make it to Houston during the run, I hope you'll try and
see it. This is a major premiere of a work by an exciting, important
playwright, being produced by Houston's foremost "big, cheap theater."

FUCKING A runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through March 18 (it will
almost certainly extend, though), 8pm, at DiverseWorks Artspace, 1117 East
Freeway, Houston, TX. Tickets are $8 - $15. For reservations, call
(713)335-3445. To talk to the Infernal Bridegroom, call (713)522-8443,
