For Immediate Release
Dixon Place presents
IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME
a Peculiar Works Project
"An intrepid force in experimental theater" - Stage Directions
written by Barry Rowell
directed by Julia Whitworth
THE CONGREGATION IS IN AN UPROAR BECAUSE THEIR MINISTER CAN'T KEEP HIS PANTS
ZIPPED, SO THE ALMIGHTY HERSELF HAS COME DOWN TO STRAIGHTEN THINGS OUT!
With the largest production in its 14-year history, the new Dixon Place is
proud to present an original play by Peculiar Works Project, a theatre
company known for putting big art in small places. Along with a 10-member
ensemble, IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME boasts twisted hymns, vaudeville shtick -
and even the Wrath of God! This Elmer Gantry-meets-Groucho Marx tale, written
by PWP Co-Director Barry Rowell, examines the meaning of true faith and
exposes how we are all accomplices to the crimes and misdemeanors of our
leaders.
The ensemble cast features Dixon Place favorites Rae C. Wright and Catherine
Porter, plus Judith Annozine, Janet Bryant, John Marino, Derrick McGinty,
Suzi Takahashi, Nomi Tichman, Terrell Tilford and Christopher Hurt as the
irrepressible minister. Directed by Julia Whitworth, with music arrangements
by Daniel T. Denver, silent movie by Fernando Maneca, sets by Ray Neufeld,
lights by Peter Nigrini, costumes by Karin Eckert and music direction by
Charles Eversole.
Peculiar Works Project, now in its seventh season, is perhaps best known for
their site-specific performances. They have taken their work directly into
NYC communities by presenting compelling theatrical experiences in landmark
buildings, gutted storefronts and other peculiar sites in the Village, Soho,
TriBeCa, the Lower East Side and, most recently, cyber-space. Their acclaimed
simultaneous performance marathon, BIG ART in small places, combines their
site-based approach with a commitment to cross-disciplinary and multi-media
work. PWP has presented projects in conjunction with such organizations as
with Lincoln Center Theater Directors' Lab, Gertrude Stein Repertory Theatre,
HERE, Judson Church, Nada, the Downtown Arts Festival, CHARAS/El Bohio
Cultural & Community Center, Greenwich House Music School and The Culture
Project, among others.
IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME is presented as part of Dixon Place's acclaimed Mondo
Cane! series of commissioned works of theatre and performance art, made
possible, in part, with private funds from the Jerome Foundation and public
funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs' Cultural Challenge
Program.
