Re: RAT The Sassies!!!!
I posted a couple of nominations that made the point that this stuff is all
SO subjective! (Somehow my post didn't get posted) Here's some of my
picks:
Of the shows I've seen-- things that have been transcendent:
Peter Brook's Mahabarata
Peter Brook's Cherry Orchard
Beijing Acrobats
Big Apple Circus-- about 7 years ago when they did the "old circus show"
Richard III with Tony Sher
Edward Bond's The War Plays Trilogy (also with Tony Sher)
Red Noses at the RSC
Peter Stein's Oresteia (8 hour's in an airplane hangar in Copenhagen)
Dario Fo doing the story of Lazarus (In Italian, translated into Danish!)
The Boy's Next Door by Tom Griffin at Trinity Rep
The Visit by Durrenmatt in the old Trinity Rep Train Station
Julie Taymor's Green Bird
Fred Curchak's STUFF AS DREAMS ARE MADE ON
Daniel Stein's TIMEPIECE
Pilobolus & Momix Dance Troupes (in various things)
Michel Lauziere
Avner Eisenberg's show
The Karamazov's doing their Mexican Cabaret piece
A piece in Philadelphia where a guy created a machine that played a record
that told him how to end the world-- all built with $20 worth of props.
(Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the play or the
director/playwright)
George Coates' SeeHear
I'm sure there are others--
I figure I see about 30-40 shows a year now. (From age 20-30, I averaged
about 75-100 plays a year, sometimes more!) So in the last 15 years, I've
seen more than 1000 plays, and been in about 45) (This doesn't include
(obviously) plays that I'm involved with.)
What I'm trying to say is, I've seen a lot of plays. So seeing 20
transcendent plays is pretty damn good I think!
