honestly speak of box office vs art in the days of Greek tragedy (when both 
belonged to the temple...speaking of institutionally subsidized art...)

Yep. I never said we should martyr ourselves (but then, english IS such an 
ODD language...). I hate that kind of theatre , personally-had enough of it.

Worse. it's completely disingenuous to invite people into our 
theatre/home/temple and bombard them with how miserable we are...not to

I don't think it's heresy to entertain, or to aid folks in escaping 
'reality' for awhile. It IS heresy and high treason as well to tell them 
something is 'good' or 'art' or anything it is NOT.
