Jesus Christ!  We're paraphrasing Jesus Christ now in
this argument?!?  Please do please give me a break. 
After 2K years I find most intelligent audience
members have progressed beyond wanting to see us nail
ourselves to a big ol' bloody  cross for their sake. 
I suppose it made for reasonably good, cutting-edge
theatre back then, but now it just seems to smack ever
so slightly of... what's the word?... condescension.

Either give them something they want (I know--
Heresy!), or convince them to want something they
didn't think they would, could or should.  Martyrdom
makes for lousy art.
