Re: RAT In-House Ticketing

Title: Re: RAT In-House Ticketing
Hey Mark,

At 24th Street Theatre  we do our own ticketing.  We used ticket agencies for the first few productions, but found they were not reliable.  Even worse, the ones here in L.A. are usually staffed by extremely rude folks who scare your audience off.  (I know I sometimes blow off shows when I start to call for tickets and see one of those ticket agency numbers, and other people have told me the same.)  Plus with your own people tallking to audiences they can give directions, tell about upcoming shows, make restaurant suggestions, and impart the feel and style of your theatre like no angency can.

Sometimes we call audience members back, but usually that "consider your reservation confirmed unless you hear from us..." works.  But for Gang shows with large houses, you'll have to monitor your numbers so that you don't get way overbooked and face a hostile crowd at the door.

Credit cards, definitely!   Take them!   So, many people use debit cards these days for everything.  We take 'em over the phone or at the door.

Hope this helps.

Hey everyone,

I have a few questions for those theatres who do in-house ticketing (vs.
using a ticketing service):

Do you just use a voicemail line which instructs patrons to leave their name,
number, and date and number of tickets?  Do you automatically call back to
confirm or just tell them to assume it's confirmed unless they hear otherwise?

Do you accept credit cards?  Do you have patrons leave the number and then
run it through or do you do that at the door?  Do you accept credit cards at
the door or just cash/checks?

What credit card service do you use? How's it working?

Please add how many seats you have.

I know these are a lot of questions, but we're considering doing our own
ticketing and I just wanted to get an idea of what theatres are doing and
patrons are used to.

Thanks,
