experts will tell you
smell is an intercourse
a physical particulate relationship
between shapely little fragments
and the receptacles that love them

i used to feel funny
about the fact that little pieces of me
are always running off to be smelly
without so much as a "by your leave"
and queing up with bits
of dinner, kitty and the dirty laundry
to fit neatly into noses
unsuspecting

who knows how much of me will fit
in with the press of day decaying
and what amlgamated me and stuff
is saying to my friends!

but then i reflected on the miraculous
translation of matter into perception
how i am slightly less to haul around
and yet am more impressive all the time

it took me 10 minutes to write this
after 33 years
and i will not absolve deodorant
for the delay
