Re: RAT Reading Series --What Brecht thinks
In a message dated 99-10-16 13:29:06 EDT, you write:
<< As for your theatre company existing because of your efforts, Ms.
McCollogh
-- hey, there are hundreds of such companies. Theatre companies are born
and
thrive, because actors and writers have a need to work. If the people are
dedicated, they'd work whether you held them together or not. Holding out
a
particular company's existence as arising from personal virtue and effort is
yet another example of overweening ego. >>
Oh for goodness sake. :) I said if you give up because you're overworked
then you won't be able to create success, and I get told I have an
overweening ego. I actually laughed out loud! Thanks for that.
I completely agree that EVERY company that grows over the years is due to the
dediction of the personalities involved. I admit I'm rather amused that your
argument pummeled me for responding to a "personal" comment made by Karen to
arouse sympathy and guilt -- and then headed straight to attacking
personalities a few lines later. :) Physician heal thyself?
Of course I'm proud of what I have personally accomplished with my company.
I hope you're proud of what you've accomplished with yours. I hope Brad can
eventually look back on this playwrighting dealy-bob and be proud of it. I'm
overworked, and underpaid (like most of you I'd hazard) -- and because of
THAT, I'm gonna brag DOUBLY about the members of my company all the time --
because they are amazing and when I watch them they fill me with joy. And
there's been many a time when we made mistakes and had problems (and fights,
oooo baby!) BUT we're still at it because we didn't let someone tell us
"you're too overworked to make it, so you shouldn't be doing it."
Phhhhllltttt! to that!
I think you better have a pretty solid ego if you want to stay sane in this
business. But then again, I'm not sure I'm still sane...so maybe you need a
solid ego to go insane too!
