" I think it is my most beautiful play since Streetcar " Tennessee
Williams said
" Fear is a monster vast as night."
Tennessee Williams' most autobiographical piece, The Two-Character Play
is a richly layered, poignant etude revealing the playwright's psyche.
Focusing on the siblings Clare and Felice, the play explores the
stagnating power of isolation, confinement, and fear. The dance between
illusion and reality, the dual nature of insanity and creativity, and
the poetic relationship existing between brother and sister.
The production will be supported by the work of a select group of
downtown artists contributing set design, sculpture and paintings
exploring their connection with the two characters and creating an
environment in which the audience will take part in a conceptual
experience.

On July 21st, Al Nodal from the Cultural Affairs department of the City of
Los Angeles will be hosting, along with Zoo District and Downtown
Enterprises, a Downtown Players Salon : an evening of food, entertainment and
dialogue. The evening inculdes city officials, newspaper reps, downtown
businesses, investors, the Broadway theater landlords, and you. This is also
2CP's BCT night. I hope you will hold the date and join us.
The evening will be as follows:
7:00 pm hors d'oeuvres and music
7:30pm will be a performance of "The Two-Character Play"
9:00pm will be a forum, with speakers ranging from cultural affairs, the
mayor's office, hopefully the consortium, and our very own Katherine Noon.
What will be discussed will be the Millenium celebrations that the city has
in mind, the Edge of the World Festival, the opportunities at the Broadway
theaters, and much more. The goal is to have the "city" and the "theaters"
in one room to exchange ideas and visions of where small theater in Los
Angeles is and where we want to go.
JULY 21st ! -- the RAT feast is the next night. Why not start festivities
a night earlier!
look forward to seeing all of you.
