RE: RAT Re: Common Courtesy

I am saying Screw Courtesy and heap on the conflict. FLAME ON!!! If you
want.

And to those who get tired of reading petty arguements between passionate
yet stupid theater people please remember that READING IS A VOLUNTARY
ACTIVITY.

Mr. Lindberg is apparently leaving the list serve because:

> "I get the distinct impression here that CA RATS only recognize one kind:
>the gray rat, that never raises his voice, eats lots of bad chili, and
>raises his glass every evening to the smog-covered sunset with a sigh of
>relief that he's gotten through another day without offending a single
>soul.

This is poetic but inaccurate. It is funny and frustrating to me that people
perceive ganging up on somebody on a list serve like there is some behind
the scenes secret network that they are not part of that leads to massive
postings saying the same thing.

NO!

Its like this:
1. RAT citizen X says something
2. RAT Y hates what X says and says so. In the processes he or she says some
thing that 90% of the rest of the community thinks is BULLSHIT.
3. The 90% of the rest of the community individually send in an email saying
"Hey, I think your full of Shit.
4. 40% of the community says "but you have the right to your opionion"
5. 40% of the community says "you shouldn't say that"
6. 10% of the community says "fuck this I quit"

Then some observer says "Hey Y should be able to say what he wants. You
people are too sensitive."

Someone offended me so I defended myself. "I have a right to my opinion."
And so does the other person. So we're both jackasses. So what.

As to the quality of the stuff that is said here it should be noted that the
archives are full of the good stuff and the jackass stuff just evaporates
into the ether.

Pay attention.

Okay, so enough self examination for now. If you don't like the quality of
the conversation raise it yourself.

If you don't like it when somebody corrects your spelling after you insult
their contribution, you have the right to do whatever but I suggest you take
a long hard look at your own postings.

If you don't like it when people respond negatively when you insult them
than don't insult them. If you do insult them then be ready for some heat.

But whatever you do, don't interpret this posting as a call to change
ANYTHING. As I said before I love the lively, nasty, intelligent, stupid,
creative, vapid, loving interplay. We are a national community of LUNATICS
who love to do theater so much we have sacrificed our lives for it and love
it anyway. I have done it enough to know that any community of passionate
creative people is going to spend a lot of time sniping at each other and a
lot of time creating brilliant stuff. I want to hear from the people I
disagree with and I want the Jackasses to stick around because it gives the
rest of us something to agree on.

Blah, Blah, Blah...

See you in L.A.

PS: Paul, I know this directly contridicts what I said at the last Sacred
Fools company meeting but:
A) The context is different
B) Consistancy is the hobgoblin of.....

pss: Yeah Lee, but my dog REALLY loves me.

psss: I did not spell check this. If you find any spellings and want to post
to the list serve I have this to say ahead of time: FUK YU.
