i think it's wonderful that you've had so many fantastic experiences with
people laying money on you, my goodness, and just think, all these friends
in a single lifetime, such a miracle.  But it never happened to me that
way, and i was just trying to warn others that mainstream funds can be (can
absolutely be) destructive.  And usually are.  And no ifs ands or buts
about it.  I spend three years at the Guthrie theatre on Ford and
Rockefeller money, as a so-called playwright in residence, and the whole
time all i did was carry spears in various well-dressed productions.  The
grant people maybe didn't make things that hideous, but the more important
question, I think, is Why didn't they help?  Go get it though, Troy, and
more power to you.  But I don't think in my statements here you will find
any attack on audiences, whoever they might be and whatever their makeup
