When I was in Australia (there she goes again about Australia) attending some 
panel thing about 'theatre in the regions' a woman who does a lot of 
community work... plays for kids in godforsaken places (which she tours from 
one god forsaken fly infested place to the next) was told of hearing an arts 
administrator trying to make the best of all the funding cuts the right wing 
government there is making on the arts.  This arts administrator was heard to 
say something like ..."but it's okay, a hungry fighter is a good fighter" ... 
so I guess they are lurching towards the kind of self blaming.. self 
victimizing mentality we Americans have developed... I think it's a kind of 
Puritanism really.  It was fascinating to see where the Australins were at-- 
kind of like what we went through in the Regan/Bush era. Everything rolling 
back and/or to the right, so you play all these little games in your head to 
try and feel like you have control.

And OyamO-- he's great, but I was hoping really to change the subject to 
anything but this--
