i dont give a rat's ass how you define it and how you defend it: money is
destructive to art, always has been, always will be. Any street person can
tell you this: if you put out your hand to beg you're already losing your
identity. And no matter how the money arrives, whether from some
corporation or council or government agency or through some benefactor who
just wants to do the right thing, it still corrupts: it corrupts
absolutely.

What i think is this: don't charge for anything. dont get paid. Steal
what you need. And that goes for playwrights as much as actors or
directors. You want my play? Fine. Here it is. But dont pay me and dont
charge anybody else when you do it.

Im not angry with anybody, i got over that a long time ago. But i am
speaking from the heart when i agree with Paul: if they can't destroy you
any other way, they will give you a grant and suck the breath out of you.
