Re: RAT CONFERENCE 99 INFO

Has RAT outlived its

Oh, gee, the same question we had two years ago (during and after the last
Conference). And probably the same question that was posed at the very
first Conference five years ago, too.

So long as "alternative" theatre artists -- and we can define them as un-
or under-funded non-mainstream theatre workers -- view collaboration and
resource-sharing as a viable alternative to struggling alone, RAT will have
a purpose. The Dadaists were able to spin off separately very easy -- most
of them were artists who worked alone. Theatre people work TOGETHER, which
is why RAT is probably the single most important movement alive in theatre
today. If some theatre people want to be stingy with their craft and their
ideas, fine; there are plenty of the rest of us.
