Dear grant dreamers:  I've had several grants in the past, including Ford
and Rockefeller, and my experience, in every instance, was that the grant
people may not directly influence one's work in a negative manner, but they
definitely discourage freedom of expression in a variety of subtle ways,
and they will invariably change the taste of your soup.  Bank on it.  And
try to get another bank if you can.
