RAT BLOOMSDAY 1999
Theatre Project (Baltimore, America)
Happy Bloomsday 1999! For those who keep the day, amidst your
celebrating, some James Joyce to hold in mind:
"But when this brief pride of silence upheld him no longer, he was glad
to find himself still in the midst of common lives, passing on his way
amid the squalor and noise and sloth of the city fearlessly and with a
light heart."
"Come in and stay the night here. You've no call to be frightened.
There's no one in it but ourselves."
"...but yet it wounded him to think that he would never be but a shy
guest at the feast of the world's culture..."
On this day, let us remember our dear friend, Alejandro Reyes, one of
the most compelling stage actors of our time and certainly one of the
greatest to have ever walked upon our stage. For hundreds of us in
Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Montreal and Mexico City -- Alejandro
remains the voice and breath of James Joyce's words... "for all the
living and the dead."
