RE: RAT RE: New Thread

Cheap flybytheseatofyourpants theatre? That's basically the central thing
that most rats have in common.

If you want short, funny and NY-based stuff, here's a list of the ones that
won't bore and depress you and compell you to ask yourself why you wanted
to become a member of this club in the first place (in my opinion):

Yikes--Todd Alcott and his gang do this show basically whenever they feel
like it. It roves from space to space, and the publicity is all word of
mouth, but it features most of the best (as in brilliantly talented)
actors--and that's absolutely a value judgement, because as in LA, most
actors are worse than miserably inept--in the city. It's really a
continuation of the Cucaracha Late Night Soap (for the record, the first of
it's kind), with most of the same people doing their thing now that
Cucaracha has disbanded.

adobe theatre company--although they are terminally sophmoric, these folks
do some good work despite themselves--they are the closest thing we have to
the legendary Ridiculous Theatre. And they actually have a lot of
talent--actors, directors, designers (especially designers). Whenever they
have a show running, they put up evenings of short pieces called Fleet the
Time on their off-nights.

PS122 does a periodic event called AvantGarde-O-Rama which usually has at
least a few inspired pieces in it. They also have their off the edge
version of dinner theatre called "Spaghetti Dinners," which is much the
same as their other show but with food too.

And of course, there's more, but my questions to most of the rest of what
my city has to offer in this vein are "Why?" And "What delusional
high-school or college teacher cast you in Brighton Beach Memoirs or South
Pacific or whatever and told you you had any talent?"
