I was at the International Women Playwrights' Conf. in Galway a couple of 
years back, and there were some wonderful women there from Australia, 
including Alison Lyssa, Jenny Kemp, and a playwright named Paula whose last 
name escapes me right now....Alison lives in Bondi Junction, Jenny I think is 
in Melbourne.  I got the sense of a very vibrant scene, of many different 
kinds, some of it English-derived and language based, and also a growing 
original visual language.  Obviously, it's a huge country, so I can't really 
speak to the experience you may have.  But all the folks I met from there 
were great.  Have fun!
