RAT housing, etc.
Rats:
Mitchell, Matthew and I and the rest of the L.A. Rats look forward to
bringing everyone to the beach (and downtown and Hollywood and Silver Lake)
for Beach Rat Bingo this July 22-25.
If you need housing, please email us now so we can start that process. Our
theatre companies will do their best to house as many as possible -- and
probably all -- but we'd like to start that process now. I'm already
housing three, and Moving Arts' managing director, Rebecca Rasmussen, is
housing Chris and Ed from Annex.
One of the things we'll need to know if you'll be renting a car. In L.A.,
transportation is more of an issue than it is elsewhere. (The city is
decentralized, and public transportation is inconvenient and slow. When I
first moved here I researched taking a bus down to USC, where I was getting
my master's degree. It's 12 miles away. It would've taken two-and-a-half
hours. Needless to say, I drove every day.) If you cannot rent a car, we'll
try to house you closer to downtown/Silver Lake/Hollywood, where we think
most of the activities will be, and try to arrange car pools for intrasite
jaunts and for travel to the westside (as on the Sunday beach event). I
have someone in Tarzana, for instance, who has offered housing; Tarzana is
great and presents no difficulties if you're renting a car. If you aren't,
it's not gonna work.
So: Let us know if you need housing (which may just be floor space or, if
you're lucky, couch space, or, if you're extremely lucky, spare-room space)
or if you're that greatest of anomalies, a "well-off" Rat, one who will be
renting a room. (And if you are "well-off," please sign the Moving Arts
mailing list and let's have a private lunch or dinner while you're out
here. Thank you.) And let us know if you'll be renting a car (recommended
if you're interested in sightseeing and will be staying a day or two past
the conference to do that).
