Boy is <that> the truth. I had the great good fortune of working on the
same festival with Del Close. The "Buckets O' Beckett" festival through
the Splinter Group in Chicago. I was Clov in "Endgame". Del was Speaker
in "A Piece of Monologue". Memorization was not his strong suit at his
time (two years ago). But, boy, could he "improve" on Beckett. And he
did. It was wonderfully hilarious. And, as Beckett would have it,
crushingly poignant. But it was nowhere near the text. Just kind of
around it. One of my favorite evenings in the theatre.
