Hey - support of RAT$$ theory..
I got this thru AOL today. I found it interesting, in light of a plethora of
various threads we've been having...
What was the list buzzing about re-inventing the state of theater again? Big

Arthur Miller Faults Costly Tickets
.c The Associated Press
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- High ticket prices on Broadway are keeping unproven ideas
out of theaters, Arthur Miller says.
``The fact is, and nobody listens to me, is that there are no new plays being
written for Broadway today,'' the ``Death of a Salesman'' playwright said
Monday at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh.
``The real theater of America is either off-Broadway or out there in the
country. When you're paying $60 to $100 a ticket, you want an orchestra you
can tap your foot to. You don't want to pay those prices to see a show you
might not like.''
Brian Dennehy is starring on Broadway in a revival of ``Death of a Salesman.''

Abrupt, so we see - but if we want folks to go see theater as casually (and as
frequently) as they go to a movie, then it seems to follow that we charge(if
we charge) somewhere around movie prices. (Which, I understand in NYC just
went up to $9.50!!) Folkd see crap movies all the time, but they'll still go
back to that director/actor if they like even SOME of what they do. Same
habits, just different venue.
Jus tthought I'd throw that out there... it's what I'm thinking about today.
By the way- any Reed College alums out there?
We're doing THE MASTER & MARGARITA for the Reed Arts Weekend on Thursday. 750
free seats!!! (I love private colleges for this very reason!)
Come on over! 8:30p on Thursday, workshop on Friday.
