RAT Positive Unit - Gentlemen Volunteers
More Positive Unit stuff...
Such fabulous luck that I've had enough nights off from rehearsal during the
last few weeks to catch FIREBUGS (twice) and now Pig Iron's GENTELMEN
VOLUNTEERS. I hear FIREBUGS had many sold out performances...Wahoo!!! Now
let's do that for Pig Iron, hm?
If you haven't caught GENTLEMEN VOLUNTEERS in it's previous incarnations,
check out the Pig Iron production at SMOKE, 233 Bread Street (not Broad Street
as it says on some of the flyers). That's near the Painted Bride, and the
Chocolate Works. Tickets are $15/$12. There's only one week left. PIG IRON

My personal reveiw? I'd see it again if I had the time, just for the physical
prowess of these five actors - but I think I have to save that time to catch
ICARUS. The staging is highly entertaining - and the space ideally suited to
the company's moving scenes (the audience moves Boulevard style through the
audience, which allows the ensemble to create an almost cinamatic control over
what view the audience takes of the action). And this intimate company
developed piece is so tightly woven with physical action, that despite a
storyline that we know by heart, the production is absolutely mesmerizing. Ty
says I'm just sappy (and I don't deny it)...but it had me weeping at points.
Stick around after the show and mention FIREBUGS and you can see the Pig Iron
cast do their favorite moments from the New Paradise production (talk about
local theatrical support!)
One warning...wear VERY warm clothes, and don't bring bulky things that you
have to carry. This show literally "carries" the audience with it - not in
any way that causes emotional or physical trauma! -, but you have to be
prepared to move.
Again, I reccomend that you get out and support this small theatre company -
this is what the cutting edge stuff is all about.
Oh....what am I in rehearsal for (I thought you'd never ask!) Vagabond is
doing two commission pieces for the Magnet Theatre Company Irish
Festival...(and we're bringing them back to Philadelphia after the performance
at Magnet). Please join us either in New Jersey (February 27-March 13) or at
Montgomery County Cultural Center for (March 3-7) for Frank McGuinness'
SOMEONE WHO'LL WATCH OVER ME which I'm directing, (featuring Leonard Kelly,
Jeremy Chacon and Charlie DelMarcelle) and our children's productions based on
the collected fairy stories of William Butler Yeats - TALES OF THE FAIRY
QUEEN by Ty Furman and myself, directed by Ty and featuring Jeremy Chacon,
Leonard Kelly and myself.
Tickets are only $5 for FAIRY QUEEN and only $10 for SOMEONE (at Montgomery
County Cultural Center). If you've heard rumors that we want to bring them
both to Philly, you're right..but we just can't seem to find a suitable space
for the times we have available. So join us at MCCC or Magnet so you don't
miss 'em!
