Re: RAT Re: [bigcheap] THIS WEEKEND
Tim,
Believe me when I say that there is no judgement going on here.
Only attempts at healing.
It should be a given that everybody heals differently.
But, personally, I will not allow the atrocities of Black Tuesday to
silence my art.
(Not to imply that another's silence is anything other than silence.)
But I must, to heal, do the opposite.
I will shriek it until it is out of me.
I will sing unto the heavens and chill god's bones with the truth in my
tone.
I will clang and clank and quiver and moan so deeply, so loudly, so
preciously that there will be no denying that a sound is being made.
My art is not frivolous or unimportant enough to be hidden or
ignored.
This isn't for everyone.
That, too, should go without saying.
But I say it now because now I'm making noise.
I will be visible in my grief.
I will wear my black armband till I'm done.
I will fly the American flag.
I will attend the theatre and stomp on the platforms when moved.
I will gather and share and weep and puke.
And I will be alone through it all.
With my suddenly lost and grief-stricken countrymen.

Most definitely! I think people need to
do what they need to do. Just
because some choose to cancel shows
this weekend, that doesn't mean they've
been quailed by the
SILENCE...and, thus, being less than what the ideal way
is to respond,
react, behave when such a tragic event has occurred in our
lives.
We all heal differently. There is a time that is right for
everyone
to experience theatre as an artist or audience member.
For some, it is this
weekend. For others, next. Please
don't judge those who have chosen this
weekend to write, to visit family
and friends, to do volunteer work, to watch
tv 24 hours a day, to sit
holed up in their apt. with the lights turned off
and the drapes shut or
whatever. For some artists, this is what they need to
do to heal.
Don't judge them.
