RAT Bardic Theatre Workshops

Dear Friends-

During the summer, our day-long Bardic Theatre workshops had great
success. So we're expanding our offerings.

In September, at our new studio in Sebastopol, CA, The Independent
Eye offers three separate day-long workshops linking theatre, spirit, and
community. Fee is a sliding scale, $40 to $70 for the day.

The workshops are about drawing from your deepest creative
wellsprings within a communal dynamic. They use a variety of simple
techniques, all centered on tapping the life energy of theatre as
celebratory communion.

Who're they for? Anyone who's fascinated by human beings. As
personal growth, they involve sharpening interplay, expanding expressive
range, and finding new dimensions in personal stories. Performers,
writers, teachers, ritualists, and human potential leaders have found these
techniques useful. And it's serious fun.

You're welcome to sign up for more than one. We recommend the
Sept. 15 introductory session before taking the others, which will also be
offered later in the year as well, but that's not required.

Saturday, Sept. 15 - Bardic Theatre: Introduction
This involves a mix of sound/movement exercises for responsiveness
and finding an individual voice within group energy; we move on to
embodying characters organically, and at last to exploring and shaping
personal stories through improvisation.

Saturday, Sept. 22 - Theatre Impro-Genesis
We focus more intensively on improvisation as an exploratory tool
to shape personal stories, dreams and experiences into dramatic expression,
and, through role-playing, to deepen understanding of human issues.

Sunday, Sept. 23 - Mask Performance
Discovering the power of the mask, its range of expression, the
energies it evokes; finding its breath, its voice and its spine; embodying
gods, monsters, fantasy creatures or ordinary characters - this is a
concentrated introduction to the mask not for hiding but for revealing.

Each day starts at 9:30 a.m. with coffee & chat. We work from
10:15 to 1:30, take a short break (bring your own lunch), then work again 2
to 5 p.m. Afterward, you're invited to stay for snacks and a social hour.
Part of the joy of it is the diversity and richness of the people who
attend.

Who are we? Conrad Bishop & Elizabeth Fuller. We've performed our
own work for 31 years, touring internationally. Our plays have been seen
at major American theatres, and we've taught hundreds of workshops. Visit
our website at www.independenteye.org for the full story.

Call at 707-824-4307 or email to reserve a spot. You need to be
able to move actively, and you need at least 18 years of experience as a
human being. We'll answer questions and give you an address to send a
check. Workshop limit is 15. Hope you can join us.

Peace & joy-
