RAT Following "What the F*** Is Diversity?"
Thanks to all who participated in this lively discussion.
I feel a bit stretched to offer a summary statement, but I did set out
to record the questions that were asked and to post them to the list
for those of you who couldn't join us. In fact, I even took some of
the statements I heard and *converted* them into questions--the better
to extend the life of the discussion, was my hope. Here they are, and
if anyone spots any glaring omissions, please follow up.
I should add that I think that this list plays better than it reads, so
feel free to print it out for recitation to your friends ...

Why should we care about diversity?
How do we define it?
What are you, as an artist, going to put out there?
Is it the same old shit?
Is diversity the enemy?
Can we worry about diversity beyond the people in this room?
When do you require diversity, and how do you get it?
Can diversity be built with money?
Can diversity be built on the basis of community?
Is diversity sometimes important and sometimes not?
Aren't we already getting enough diversity (or talk of diversity) from
our culture? Are we perhaps getting too much?
What is the responsibility of the *individual* artist?
Is it enough to tend to your own work or vision?
Is responsibility different for some persons or companies than it is
for others?
What about other diversities? What about aesthetic diversity?
Which diversity matters, and how much?
Does diversity make theatre better?
What is a diverse theatre? What is your ideal?
Should we expect to make a living in theatre?
What are we asking for? And of whom?
Who needs to do the work? Who needs to speak the truth?
Can diversity be done anymore?
Are we being honest?
