Re: RAT BCT for NYC
RATs,
I'm not in New York, but I have created a couple of e-mail lists over the
last year. The following advice may or may not be helpful in your
situation.
I think the folks who create the list need to put lots of work into
recruiting for a new list. People are not likely to join a list just from
seeing the joining instructions.
I see you're on yahoogroups -- that's the one I use. Gather all the e-mails
for every theater person you know, and every theater person you have heard
about. Use the Invite feature to Invite all of them to the group. The
invite feature will send them an email. All they'll have to do to join is
reply to the e-mail
For the folks you know, and are sure would be interested, don't just invite
them, go ahead and subscribe them directly. They don't even have to reply
to the initial e-mail to join. If they don't want to be members, they have
to reply to unsubscribe.
In my experience, 10 - 40 percent of the folks you invite will bother to
reply, and join your list. If you turn around and add those people to the
list yourself, very few of them will unsubscribe.
Once the list takes off, it will grow on its own, but until then, it may
need some extensive care and feeding.
And maybe this isn't the problem you're having, after all.
Good Luck!
Liz Ware
PS:
If you're starting a list, look at www.yahoogroups.com. It's very easy.
