RAT Lipstick Traces in NYC from Rude Mechs
Hiya dear RATS -
Sorry this has been so long in coming - i should have emailed sooner
but i've just been buried under blistering amounts of work.
Anyhoo, want to invite all of you to come see Rude Mechs (aka Rude
Mechanicals) show LIPSTICK TRACES in NYC running through June 10th at
the Ohio Theatre. This is a new incarnation of our show that was a
big hit in Austin and was optioned by the Foundry Theatre for a
production here in NYC. Same director, some of the same cast, new
design, some tinkering with the script. It's been going great so far
- maybe you saw some of the nice press in the NY Times. We're pretty
darn proud of it and would love to have some NYC Rats join us. I'm
fresh out of comps, but the Foundry told me that I could offer you
guys staff price tix ($20) this week only on Tuesday (tonight!),
Wednesday or Friday at 7:30 pm. Just show up at the door and tell
them you were offered the staff price deal. All the nitty gritty
details follow below. Or check out our website at
http://www.lipsticktraces.org. And if you come, stick around
afterwards and say hi. I'll be the one walking around with a
stopwatch around my neck.
take care!

LIPSTICK TRACES
A SECRET HISTORY OF THE 20TH CENTURY
A Theatrical Adaptation of Greil Marcus' cult classic
by Rude Mechs of Austin, TX
6 Weeks only! May 2nd - June 10th
The Ohio Theatre 66 Wooster St. NYC
Tickets $30
LIPSTICK TRACES is a free-wheeling and explosive alternative history
of the 20th century, filtered through the punk movement and other
provocative cultural phenomena of the century. Greil Marcus' book has
been widely acclaimed as not only an unparalleled celebration of the
milestone of punk rock, but as one of the great commentaries on 20th
century contemporary culture. In this theatrical adaptation, Sex
Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren joins forces with a tenacious, if
somewhat manic, Dr. Narrator, to revisit those movements in culture
that raised no monuments, movements that barely left a trace. Johnny
Rotten's first audition for the Sex Pistols, a dada evening at the
Cabaret Voltaire and Michel Mourre's 1950 siege on Notre-Dame are
among the spectacles visited in this piece.
The cast :
David Greenspan as Malcolm McLaren; James Urbaniak as Situationist
leader, Guy Debord, T. Ryder Smith as Dada's Richard Huelsenbeck;
Jason Liebrecht as Johnny Rotten; Lana Lesley as Dr. Narrator and Ean
Sheehey as Michel Mourre and John of Leyden.
LIPSTICK TRACES is "a punk rock concert for your head ...physically
ecstatic and intellectually nervy. This is the show that you tell
people who never go to theatre to go see."
Austin Chronicle
Performances are Tuesday through Sunday at 7:30 PM,
with an additional late night show on Saturdays at10:00 PM.
