Shtik! is monologist & juggler Sara Felder's new solo show that
explores the lives and routines ("shtik") of an immigrant
vaudevillian with a penchant for cross-dressing and a queer performance
artist searching for a glimpse of her past.
Our story begins with a young Jew sailing from Warsaw who dons a pair
of trousers and ponders the wonders of Amerike. Then we travel to the
present to meet a queer performance artist, who falls shamelessly in
love with Yiddish culture. Shtik! features a clown's secret recipe, a
gender-bending pas de deux, a nearly century-old Yiddish play with a
twist that could make a hipster plotz, a juggler with attitude playing
the classics, granddaughters of Budists swaying with the Holy Torah
at the Western Wall...
In her signature style, Felder turns her insightful eye and sharp wit to
the great questions of our time: identity, sexuality and rubber chickens.
