Re: RAT Marx in Soho (in LA) << Melissa Hillman >>
Suggestions? It's very simple. Unless it's a Broadway or an Equity
production, lower ticket costs to roughly the price of a move or under. And
offer discount nights, for word-of-mouth. Also, eliminate sets and don't
pay artists or offer stipends to playwrights. You'll find tons of good
material out there from emerging playwrights who are willing to forego fees
for a production.
Also, read Grotowski's "Towards A Poor Theatre."
Theater at the BCT level (non-Equity) ought not to be about money -- just
good acting, good material, good direction.
More than $10 a ticket, I (and many other theatre people) will pass.
