RAT Call for plays
Hey, Rats! Impact is currently looking for short plays for our fifth annual
Impact Briefs festival. In the past, we've focused on comedy, but this year,
we're doing something a little different. "Impact Briefs 5: The East Bay
Remix" will focus on plays of any genre that have something to do with the
Bay Area, preferably the East Bay. Setting, characters, theme- whatever.
Here are the reqs: The plays must be 10 minutes or less in length; they must
be appropriate for actors/audience aged approx 18-35 (interpret this how you
will); they must require no more than 6 actors (3 men, 3 women); they must
require minimal sets. Funky costumes and lights are OK- last year we did a
play that required a sheep, a pig, and a 6'3" carrot. So clearly costumes
don't frighten us. Yes, we still have the carrot costume, and no, you can't
borrow it. In fact, I'm wearing it right now.
Submission deadline is October 1. Send 2 hard copies (no email submissions,
please) to the address below. Include a SASE or email address for our
response; include a SASE with adequate postage (you'd be surprised how often
this is an issue) if you want your work returned. Check out our website-
www.impacttheatre.com- to learn a little more about us, or email me with your
questions. The show opens in March 2002 and we're paying 20 bucks for each
play we use. Previously produced plays are OK, but as we focus on new plays
by emerging playwrights, we tend not to use plays that have been published.
Thanks! And I'm serious about email questions- don't be shy.
