Philadelphia RATS
Hi all --
Hello Rats...been a while since I've voiced in, since I've been deep into a
very hectic season AND pregnant. But as I enter the final days of my
pregnancy (according to my doctor) AND we also open the final show of our
season - I hope you'll join us if you are in the area and see what one
independent theatre is doing in Philadelphia, PA.
We hope you will take a glance at the preview given below...and join us for
our World Premiere adaptation of Leonid Andreyev's circus love story (and a
little bit more) running March 7 to 25 at 2nd Stage of the Adrienne Theatre,
2030 Sansom Street, Philadelphia, PA -- Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8
p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Remember, if you reserve in advance AND bring
your headshot and/or theatre resume, your artist discounted ticket is only
$12!
From THE CITY PAPER, Philadelphia --
Slapped
Why should modern plays by foreign authors suffer stilted
translation? No good reason. So three cheers for
Vagabond Acting Troupe, whose new production of He Who
Gets Slapped, Leonid Andreyev’s comic satire set in a circus,
benefits from a two-phase translation: the first, by Akiva
Fox from the original Russian, for clarity; the second, by
director Aileen McCulloch, into contemporary
Anglo-American colloquialism. Simply entitled SLAPPED,
Vagabond’s version follows a runaway philosopher who
joins the circus, adopting a clown’s persona, only to
struggle with the human desire to reveal his identity. The
"strong physical style" of the piece should match its
beefed-up dialogue, packing a punch rather than a custard
pie. —Juliet Fletcher
