I agree that it is important not to let the thinking
of the context etc. take up more time and energy then
the creation itself, and that the talk over 'what is
art and who should it be aimed at and whats the
purpose of art' really does often rest on piles of
'broken glass' that is unspoken personal expirience. 

However, the medium too is the message, plus our
realities are controled and processed by the likes of
Disney, and thinking about the historical
usage/purpose/abuse of art, the relations between the
artists and the forces to be during centuries
(sponsores, authorities, bannings, ...) all makes one
reconsider ones position as an artist in the fabric of
today's society. 

Who we address and where and why and how does matter.
