Today I am thinking (further) that what I'm up to, the thing that
stokes my desire to speak to an audience, is the satisfaction of a
deep-seated urge. I know what a work of art can do to me. I know what
that feels like, and I want to do it to others.
And because, as I've discovered, this is not a simple task, not an easy
urge to satisfy, I get caught up in obsessive behavior, such as
thrashing my way through so-called Big Questions. This is not a bad
thing! I tell myself, hopefully.
But for me, something feels not-quite-right about "blue collar," or
about the assurance that if I do my work, "everything else"--aka the
satisfaction of my urge--"will fall into place."
