> PROP THTR廣 NEW PLAY 2001: ANNUAL NEW PLAYS FESTIVAL
> Information and Application
>
> The Prop Thtr廣 Annual New Plays Festival began in 1998 and was
> originally modeled after the Eugene O噓eill National Playwright廣
> Conference. Since that time it has expanded in a variety of directions.
> For 2001, the Festival is broadening its artistic outreach by expanding the
> youth programing.
> New Play 2001 will be selecting ten plays by adult playwrights and two to
> five plays by young adults between the ages of 12 and 19 years of age. All
> plays chosen will receive staged readings. Discussions with the audience
> will follow all performances. Playwrights will have the services of a
> dramaturg and a director. Playwrights who are selected will receive a
> stipend of up to $800.00 and out of town authors will also receive travel
> and housing expenses. The Festival consists of a Kick- Off Week: June 25
> through July 1, 2001 (wherein selected playwrights read their plays aloud
> for the other playwrights and Festival support staff), and the concentrated
> production period from July 2 until August 5, 2001. The schedule will
> become more specific as the actual dates approach, however, if you can not
> be in Chicago during these dates please do not apply.
>
> The focus of this program is on the playwright and the process, not on
> polished production. Participating authors are urged--and expected--to
> rewrite their plays, try out various options, and to take advantage of
> dramaturgical input to help establish goals and priorities. If you are
> unwilling to participate in a community of authors, and to entertain a
> variety of opinions about your work, then the Festival might not be such a
> good idea for you.
>
> Plays submitted for consideration should be full-length (one-act or
> multi-act format), original, unproduced and unencumbered works. Plays which
> have had previous readings or workshops are acceptable, as long as they have
> not received an official world premiere; have not been produced for a paying
> audience (for example, second stage productions); and have not been publicly
> reviewed. The Festival does not accept musicals, although plays with
> incidental music will be considered.
>
> There is a submission processing fee of $15.00 per script (check or money
> order made out to Prop Thtr Group) and authors may submit up to two (2)
> plays. No play will be considered without a completed application and
> processing fee. If you want your play returned to you it must be submitted
> with an s.a.s.e. If you want confirmation that your play was received
> please include a self addressed, stamped postcard or mail certified or Fed
> Ex, etc. Acceptance/rejection letters will be mailed at the theatre廣
> expense although a self addressed envelope would be appreciated. IMPORTANT:
> Do not bind scripts, (so copies can easily be made if necessary.) Use
> standard weight copy paper. Use single-sided paper only. Do not include
> any cassette tapes or CDs. Please put your name, address, phone, e-mail on
> the title page.
>
> It is the author廣 responsibility to copyright his/her work, and we urge
> all authors to do so before submitting a script to our program, or any other
> program. The Festival makes no claims of interest, financial or otherwise,
> in an author廣 work once the Festival is completed.
